The German European School Manila is a certified German school overseas which offers a German education. The GESM features a German and International section. In the school year 2013-2014, GESM has 300 students and consists of a variety of expat families; children from German/Filipino families and other international backgrounds. Many of our students have already lived for several years in the Philippines, but have never experienced education from a Philippine perspective.
The Philippine school system is different from the German system in that after 10 years of school, the Philippine student then continues into University. In recent years, however, the school system has begun to change into a 12 year school system. With this transition in mind, it was seen as timely for our students to experience the Philippine school system and their transition into a 12 year school system. Thus, in this context, and in deference to our celebration of 20 Years of Education at the Eurocampus, the idea was born that our French and German students would exchange with local community schools in order to better understand this transition and the challenges inherent therein.
The central idea of this project was to better understand the school system of our guest country, both the differences and similarities with the view of the possibility of working together and learning and supporting each other in our educational methods. This project was conducted in the context of our celebrations of the 20 Year Anniversary of the Eurocampus which was largely celebrated on the 11th of March 2013. Together with our partners, (Paranaque National High School, Moonwalk National High School, Sun Valley National High School Lycée Francaise de Manille, Goethe Institute, Saxonie International School Glauchau etc.) we were able to realize several goals.
