Marveling at the fire tornado over six meters high, setting a ball in motion alone through brainwaves and relaxation, or lying as comfortably as a fakir on a bed of nails: over 350 phenomena amaze both young and old at phaeno in Wolfsburg and kindle enthusiasm for science and technology. There's something to discover for everyone in Germany's unique Experimental Landscape. Families as well as individuals, groups, or clubs and societies can all discover what's behind a wide spectrum of phenomena within the world they live in. And the best thing about it: visitors are called upon to take an active part in what's going on. There are no prescribed routes through the landscape and visitors are guided by their curiosity and what takes their fancy. The possible paths lead through different interesting topic areas such as Energy, Mirrors, Vision or Life.
Defying the cold through the power of thought, casting endless reflections, freezing one's own shadow, exploring genes, experiencing what electricity feels like, or landing as softly as a cat. Those are just a few examples of what the visitor can expect during a thrilling day at phaeno in Wolfsburg. Thanks to changing special exhibitions, there's always something new to discover.
The unique architecture turns any visit into a spectacular total experience. According to the guardian newspaper in England, phaeno is one of the 12 most significant modern works of architecture in the world. The Pritzker Architecture Prize laureate Zaha Hadid designed the impressive building, whose exhibition hall rests on ten conic supports and thrones high above the street level.
Two Visitor Labs, the Science Theatre and the Ideas Forum provide additional space for a varied program of events with join-in activities, lectures and science shows.
